Wilhelm Klagholz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelm Klagholz (born June 22, 1905 in Heilbronn ; † June 23, 1984 ) was a flasher and plumber who ran a workshop for handicraft metalwork in Heilbronn. He was particularly known for his artistic work. As a sculptor, he formed handcrafted sculptures such as the animal figures on the astronomical art clock of the Heilbronn town hall .

Live and act

Klagholz attended secondary school in Heilbronn and learned the trade of bottle maker and fitter at the craft company EW Kachel. He worked in Switzerland, Austria, Northern Germany, at the Junkers factories in Dessau , at the NSU factories in Heilbronn and at the municipal utilities in Heilbronn. During the Second World War he was taken prisoner by the Soviets. After the war he returned to Heilbronn and opened a workshop for handicrafts at Christophstraße 47 in Heilbronn. From 1976 to 1980 he lived in Murrhardt , later at Gymnasiumstrasse 80 in Heilbronn. He was with Wilhelmine geb. Schneider married and had two daughters (Lore and Elke) and a son (Rolf) with her.

sculptor

He also worked as a sculptor who created handicraft sculptures - mostly animal figures. He was considered a "Heilbronn craftsman and artist ... The artist in him blossoms when he forms the copper figuratively ... he [had] developed his own mixture for coloring the copper." With the sculpture of Heilbronn Adlers at the town hall "created [he] a real masterpiece, which proves what excellent works real handicrafts can create ...". He made the new Heilbronn eagle after the old figure on the town hall tower had been destroyed. The total height is 1.70 m, the span 60 cm, the length 85 cm. He had also newly made the cock for the town hall clock, which he had driven in copper. After the war, only the foot and tail remained of the cock of the old town hall clock. One of the two rams on the old town hall clock was missing; Klagholz made a new ram based on the original that had been preserved. The trumpet and the scepter of the two angels on the town hall clock were also re-manufactured by him.

For the Heilbronner Stadtbad on Wollhausplatz he was supposed to create a replica of the gargoyle, which was located in the old Stadtbad until it was destroyed , and supplied a modern lion's head embossed in copper. When the Nikolaikirche in Heilbronn was being rebuilt, he put a cock designed by him on the roof turret . "Many church towers in the region", such as the church towers in Großgartach ( Lorenzkirche ) or Lampoldshausen (Nikolauskirche), carry a cock that he has driven in copper.

His life and artistic work was honored in the Deutsche Handwerks Zeitung , as “he created the figures on the town hall clock [and] numerous artistic works for churches (baptismal fonts) and authorities.” Klagholz was also honored by the Chamber of Crafts.

Others

He is also known as the “restorer of many Heilbronn sights”. He restored the Robert Mayer Memorial and the Schiller Memorial in Heilbronn. He also restored the difficult roof repairs on the onion dome at the pilgrimage church “Our Lady of the Nussbaum” in Höchstberg and at Liebenstein Castle . On the Tagblatt tower in Stuttgart , he designed the letters of the inscription there. Klagholz designed “many other” new buildings “far beyond Heilbronn” in a modern and professional manner.

For Klagholz animals were not just objects of art. He was also a dedicated small animal breeder. From 1934 he was a board member of the Reichsbund Deutscher Kleintierzüchter eV - Reichsgruppe exhibition poultry breeders eV In 1947 he was officially elected as 1st chairman of the district association rabbits Heilbronn. In 1954 he was elected to the 1st district chairman of the district association of unified small animal breeders Heilbronn eV. On June 7, 1980, he was appointed master of German rabbit breeding at a meeting of the Central Association of German Rabbit Breeders (ZDK) .
