Wilhelm M. Busch

Wilhelm Martin Busch (born September 1, 1908 in Breslau ; † July 7, 1987 in Hamburg ) was a German illustrator .

biography

Wilhelm M. Busch was the son of the painter Arnold Busch , who taught at the Breslau Art Academy . After graduating from high school, he did a three-year apprenticeship as a decorative painter .

From 1929 to 1932 he studied at the Berlin Academy for Free and Applied Art and became a press illustrator and freelance artist. During the Second World War he was drafted as a PK draftsman .

In 1954 he moved to Hamburg and became a teacher at the textile and fashion school (later the technical college for design). In 1984 he was appointed professor by the Hamburg Senate .

In 1968 the circus aficionado received the Saltarino Prize and in 1976 he was honored with the Edwin Scharff Prize of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

Wilhelm M. Busch was best known as an illustrator of over 300 books. He had been married to Brigitte Borchert - the actress from Menschen am Sonntag - since 1936 ; the marriage had three children.
