Wilhelm Rath

Wilhelm Rath (born July 6, 1892 in Hochberg ; † May 31, 1967 there ) was a German farmer and politician ( WBWB , later FDP / DVP ).

Life and work

Rath, a farmer by profession, came from a politically active family. His father Heinrich had been a member of the Hochberg municipal council since 1907 and his grandfather Karl-August Rath represented the liberals in the Württemberg state parliament . During the First World War he was used as a non-commissioned officer , but after the death of his father (1915) he was partially released for farming. From 1932 until shortly before his death he was a member of the board of the "Milchwerke Ludwigsburg" , a farming dairy cooperative .

Political party

From 1919 Rath was initially a member of the Württemberg farmers and wine growers' association , of which he became the local chairman and for whom he entered the local council in 1931. In 1945 he was one of the founders of the DVP in the Ludwigsburg district .

MP

In 1946, Rath was elected to the constituent assembly of Württemberg-Baden as a direct candidate for the Ludwigsburg constituency , and in November of the same year to the first state parliament of Württemberg-Baden . He resigned the mandate with the election in the Bundestag. Rath belonged to the German Bundestag in its first legislative period (1949–1953). From 1946 to 1959 he was a member of the district council of Ludwigsburg .

Public offices

In 1933, Rath was elected the new mayor of Hochberg by the still freely elected municipal council, but was replaced by a National Socialist in 1934 on the instructions of the Württemberg Ministry of the Interior . In 1945 he was appointed acting mayor by the American occupation forces, an office he held until the first local elections in 1946.

Honorary positions

Rath was chairman of the Ludwigsburg district association of fruit and horticultural associations (1946–1961) and the district farmers' association (until 1962).

In 1958 Rath was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class .
