Walliser, the son of a trimmers , entered the art academy in Munich on November 20, 1850, specializing in painting . In 1859, in addition to three figures, the neo-Gothic high altar of the Riegler Michaelskapelle was created by his hand . Walliser probably moved to Freiburg in 1862, where he married on May 19, 1864.

Walliser created a group of Mounts of Olives for the Waldshut cemetery, and in 1869 a Madonna for the one in Staufen- Grunern . Most of the works that have been preserved by Valais are tombs, as he was “the most sought-after tombstone sculptor” in Freiburg in his day - after Alois Knittel . In the old cemetery , for example, the grave of Welz († 1865/40), that of the cathedral capitular Fidel Haiz (1801–1872) and that of Karl Mutschler († 1863) can be assigned to him. The latter was created in collaboration with his colleague Karl Andelfinger .

The tombs of the A. Krebs and von Kageneck families as well as that of the archbishop's building inspector Franz Baer († 1891) come from Walliser in Freiburg's main cemetery . For the latter, however, he only supplied the case for the bronze portrait of Gustav Adolf Knittel .

In 1868 Walliser created a fountain with a monument to Ulrich Zasius in front of today's Berthold-Gymnasium , which earned him 750 guilders . The sculptures at the crossroads of the Loretto Chapel on the Lorettoberg 1885-1887 also come from him, as the Kniebis -Kreuz.

Walliser died in 1898 and only received a third class burial.

Valais apprentice Joseph Zeiser from Brumath received the first prize in modeling in 1890, followed by Heinrich Hörner in 1890 and 1891 with a commendation at the trade school. Another student of Walliser was the wood sculptor Joseph Dettlinger (1865–1937).
