Raoul Alster
Raoul Alster (born October 27, 1899 in Lemberg , Austria-Hungary as Raoul Abraham ; died March 19, 1962 in Bern ) was a German-speaking actor , director and theater director in Switzerland .
Life
The Alster family fled the war zone in Galicia to Vienna in 1916 . After graduating from high school, Alster began studying law at the University of Vienna , but broke it off and attended Max Reinhardt's drama seminar in Vienna in 1920/21 . He had his first engagement in Gablonz in 1921 , after which he was engaged by the Chemnitz Theater. This was followed by engagements in Königsberg in 1923 and from 1925 in Nuremberg and at the Mannheim National Theater . Alster was a member of the German Stage Members' Cooperative (GDBA).
After the handover of power to the National Socialists in Germany, he was released as a Jew in 1933 and expelled to Austria. After a year in Czechoslovakia , he managed to get an engagement in Switzerland in 1935. From 1935 to 1954 he was an actor and director at the Stadttheater Bern . At Radio Beromünster he worked as a speaker in radio plays until 1962 . He was also involved in two productions at NDR in 1959, one in the title role in Dschingl , directed by Gerlach Fiedler , and the other in Die Karaffe with director Kurt Reiss .
In Bern, between 1955 and 1962, he was in charge of the Atelier-Theater, founded in 1951, which, under his direction, was dedicated to modern authors, and was briefly interim director of the Bern City Theater.
In 1952 he received citizenship of the city of Bern. Alster was married to the actress Agnes Busch.
