Wilhelm de Weerth

Wilhelm de Weerth (born October 27, 1866 in Elberfeld (today a district of Wuppertal ); † February 5, 1943 ) was a German lawyer , manager, politician and church politician.

Life

Wilhelm de Weerth was born the son of the banker August de Weerth . After graduating from high school in Elberfeld in 1884, he studied law and, like his father, became a member of the Corps Suevia while studying at Heidelberg University . After his doctorate as Dr. jur. he entered the higher Prussian administrative service as a civil servant, from which he left after a short time as a government assessor in order to take over supervisory mandates in various banks and insurance companies. In 1931 he was chairman of the supervisory board of Nordstern und Vaterländische Versicherungs-AG , the reinsurance association and the Westdeutsche Bodenkreditanstalt. He was also a member of the supervisory board of Deutsche Bank und Disconto-Gesellschaft in Berlin , Deutsche Central-Boden-Kreditanstalt, Deutsche Hypothekenbank Meiningen , Nordstern Lebensversicherung, Concordia Lebensversicherung, Schlesische Feuerversicherung, Silesia and Schlesisch-Kölnische Lebensversicherung.

De Weerth was a city councilor in Elberfeld and from 1908 to 1930 a member of the provincial parliament of the Prussian Rhine province for Elberfeld, the Prussian general synod and the Rhineland provincial church council.

As a genealogist, he wrote the history of the de Weerth family . He donated a collection of books on Dutch legal and political doctrine and Dutch canon law to the Goettingen State and University Library. He was the builder of the Villa de Weerth in Wuppertal-Elberfeld, which is now a listed building .

Awards

Wilhelm de Weerth was an honorary citizen and honorary doctor of theology from the University of Bonn .
