Will Champlin (born April 24, 1983 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American singer-songwriter. He gained greater fame in 2013 through his participation in the casting show The Voice . He is the son of Bill Champlin .

Career

Will Champlin grew up in Los Angeles. He later attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and then went to Nashville to develop musically. He worked as a songwriter and as a studio and tour musician. Among other things, he was involved as a songwriter on Heather Headley's Grammy album Audience of One . He went on tour with Chicago (his father's former band), Glen Frey and Billy Ray Cyrus . And on his return to Los Angeles, he played the piano for Michael Jackson's last album .

In order to advance his solo career, he applied for the fifth season of the talent show The Voice in 2013 . At the blind auditions , three coaches decided for him, but in the battles that followed, he lost his duel and only progressed because the fourth coach, Christina Aguilera , brought him into her team. After that, he lost the knockout round again and this time Adam Levine brought him back to his team. In the live shows, however, Champlin was able to convince and in round four was even the only participant who was able to get his contribution, the Etta James classic At Last , into the top ten of the iTunes charts and even into the Billboard Hot 100 . Eventually he even reached the finals of the show, finishing in third place.
