Willi Marquardt (born September 16, 1932 ; † November 28, 2017 in Berlin ) was a soccer goalkeeper in Babelsberg , Aue and SC Dynamo Berlin and was once on the GDR national soccer team .

Athletic career

Willi Marquardt made his debut in the upper league at the age of 21 with the BSG Rotation Babelsberg , one of the founding communities of the highest East German football class. Between 1954 and 1957 he was 59 times in goal of the 65 league games for the film townspeople. On September 19, 1956, he played in what was then Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz) against Indonesia in a 3-1 win, his only A international match for the GDR. The FUWO wrote in its then edition in the individual review: "Overall, the young Babelsberg goalkeeper justified his first-time appointment to the A-team. He was generally sure of the catch, with one exception also really distancing ..... In some situations none One hundred percent understanding with Schoen . Once they both collided unnecessarily. At the gate, innocent. " Marquardt couldn't get past the more experienced Spickenagel in the senior national team . Before his A international match, Marquardt had already been in goal for the B national team four times, and later another six games were added.

In order to develop further, he moved at the beginning of the 1957 season to the reigning GDR soccer champion SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt , who played his games in the Auer Otto-Grotewohl Stadium . There he was only used in two league games in December 1957, as Klaus Thiele was preferred to him as the goalkeeper. In 1957, the SC Wismut was again GDR champions, and with his two appearances, Willi Marquardt could also call himself a soccer champion.

After the disappointment at Wismut, he moved to the top division SC Dynamo Berlin at the end of 1957 , where he replaced the 31-year-old Heinz Klemm as the regular goalkeeper. In 1959 he successfully took revenge on his former club Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt when he won the GDR soccer cup with the Dynamo team after a 3-2 win over Wismut . Between 1958 and 1964 he played a further 112 league games, so that he came to a total of 173 point games in the top GDR soccer class. Until 1968 Marquardt played in the reserve team of the SC successor BFC Dynamo, with which he won the Berlin City League championship in 1967. He then ended his active career at SG Lichtenberg 47 .
