Willi Rimpau
Georg Willi Rimpau (born January 16, 1877 in Braunschweig , † August 9, 1963 in Munich ) was a German hygienist and microbiologist .
life and work
The son of the particulars Dietrich Rimpau spent his school days in Braunschweig and then studied medicine in Freiburg im Breisgau , Göttingen and Munich . In Munich he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD. In 1903, Rimpau became assistant to Robert Koch at the Institute for Infectious Diseases in Berlin. This was followed by a job as an unskilled worker in the medical department of the Prussian Ministry of Culture . From 1905 to 1907 he worked in the fight against typhus in Metz and Trier and then took over the management of the bacteriological institute in Hagenau in Alsace. He switched to the Imperial Health Department in Berlin as an unskilled worker . On January 1, 1911, he became the second director of the newly founded Royal Bacteriological Research Institute in Munich. At the side of Max von Gruber and Adolf Dieudonné , the subsequent state institute was expanded. From 1942 he was a member of the Leopoldina . Rimpau retired in 1948.
Rimpau conducted research in the areas of disease control , microbiology and geomedicine and wrote several publications on this. He was appointed royal professor because of his services in combating the typhus epidemic that raged in Munich in the summer of 1913 .
