William Albert Hajt (* 18th November 1951 in Radisson , Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player , who during his playing career from 1967 to 1987 among other 934 games for the Buffalo Sabers in the National Hockey League on the position of the defender has denied . His son Chris Hajt was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Hajt began his junior career with the Saskatoon Blades , for whom he played in the Western Canada Hockey League between 1967 and 1971 . The defender increased his points in four consecutive years of play from the beginning of 14 to 72 points . This led to the fact that he was selected in the third round in the third round of the Buffalo Sabers from the National Hockey League in 1971 in the NHL Amateur Draft .
Although he had left the junior division after the 1970/71 season , Hajt could not agree on a contract with the Buffalo Sabers over the summer of 1971. Since no agreement had been reached between the two parties during the current season, the Canadian suspended the entire 1971/72 season with ice hockey. It was not until the 1972/73 season that the defender signed a contract in the Sabers franchise and was used for their farm team , the Cincinnati Swords , in the American Hockey League . With 35 points in 69 appearances, Hajt was able to impress in his rookie season and celebrated winning the Calder Cup with the Swords at the end of the season . For Cincinnati he ran - with the exception of his first six games for Buffalo in the NHL - also in the 1973/74 season .
It was not until the 1974/75 season that the defensive player was given a regular place in Buffalo's squad. He convinced with 29 points scorer in 76 games - the best season record of his career - and reached the final of the Stanley Cup with the Sabers in the course of the Stanley Cup playoffs in 1975 . There the team was subject to the Philadelphia Flyers . In the following years Hajt developed into an indispensable player in Buffalo's defense network, who only had a negative plus / minus balance once in his 13 seasons . Overall, he played for the Sabers until the end of the 1986/87 season , before ending his career in the summer of 1987 at the age of 35 after a number of injuries.
