William Malone

William Malone (* 1953 in Lansing , Michigan ) is an American director of horror films .

Life

At the age of 14, he was already making home videos with an 8 mm camera and creating monster masks for Halloween . At 19, he moved to Los Angeles and started working for Don Post Studios in costumes, makeup and as a makeup artist. Among other things, he was also responsible for the design of Michael Myers' mask in the horror film Halloween . He later began directing at UCLA and made his first film, the sci-fi horror Scared to Death , in 1980 on a budget of $ 74,000 . In 1985 Malone made his breakthrough with Creature .

He spent the next 14 years mainly on television productions. He shot an episode of the Freddy's Nightmares series as well as several episodes of the HBO hit series Tales from the Crypt ( Tales from the Crypt ).

Working with Joel Silver and Robert Zemeckis on Tales from the Crypt , he was hired to direct the remake of William Castle's classic Haunted Hill (House on Haunted Hill) in 1999 . The horror thriller was the first film by Silvers and Zemeckis' newly formed production company Dark Castle Entertainment and was a hit at the US box office on Halloween '99.

In 2002 the flop FearDotCom followed with Natascha McElhone and Stephen Dorff . His directorial work The Fair Haired Child on the Showtime television series Masters of Horror was the most watched episode of the entire season. Most recently, William Malone worked on the horror thriller Parasomnia .
