William Olvis (composer)

William Patrick Olvis (born December 23, 1957 in Portland , Oregon - † May 6, 2014 in Malibu , California ) was an American composer in film and television. He created some musical works for cinema in the 1980s and 1990s. Including compositions for films such as Kill me again , Straße zum Glück , Red Rock West , Separate Lives - Tödliches Doppelleben or Different Minds - Enemy Brothers .

Life

William Patrick Olvis was born in Portland in the northwestern state of Oregon in 1958 to the actor and opera singer William Edward Olvis. Olvis began his musical career on television in 1988 with his music for Karen Arthur's television drama Das Oberste Gebot with Lindsay Wagner . In the next 10 years numerous compositions for TV films and episodes for TV series followed.

From 1991 to 1992 he composed the music for 31 episodes of the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) series Alles Okay, Corky? . Between 1993 and 1997 he was the composer responsible for 116 of a total of 150 episodes in the popular doctor and family series Dr. Quinn - a passionate doctor with Jane Seymour in the lead role.

For the cinema he wrote the music scores for the two action thrillers by director John Dahl . Once in 1989 Kill me again with Val Kilmer and in 1993 Red Rock West with Nicolas Cage , Dennis Hopper and Lara Flynn Boyle . He also composed the film music for George Gallo's comedy Straße zum Glück with Anthony LaPaglia and Danny Aiello , the psycho thriller Separate Lives - Deadly double life by David Madden with James Belushi , Linda Hamilton and Vera Miles and the Andrew Davis comedy Different Minds with the actors Andy García and Alan Arkin .

Olvis won four ASCAP awards in his career in 1995, 1997, 1998 and 1999.

William Olvis was married to Cathleen Young, who also accompanied him as an agent and musical partner. Olvis died on May 6, 2014 at the age of 56 in Malibu, California, of complications from cancer.
