action

Fay Forrester and her violent boyfriend Vince Miller steal a million dollars owned by the Mafia. Miller wants to keep all the money for himself, so Forrester flees with the money. She hires the shady private investigator Jack Andrews to fake her death. Forrester tells the detective that she is on the run from her ex-husband who allegedly abused her. Andrews agrees, even though he realizes she is lying.

The private detective, a widower, is accordingly suspected of murder by the police. The femme fatale , who likes to hang around in the casino, runs away again and again. Miller and the mafia are also interested in him now. He has an affair with Forrester who suggests staging death again - this time that of both lovers. Andrews is reportedly on his way to Maine , where his wife drowned in a traffic accident. Andrews is supposed to hide the money near the place where a boat accident is to be faked not far from the shore. Meanwhile, Miller tortures a friend of Andrews and learns his whereabouts in Nevada . Fay manages to kill Miller. Again, everything was just threaded: Miller shows up, reconciles with Fay and forces Andrews to hand over the suitcase with the money. Then Andrews jumps into the water, Miller and Fay shoot him and injure him badly. The accomplices flee from the police and discover on the way that there is not money in the suitcase, but waste paper. They ram a tank container that explodes.

At the end you see Andrews traveling with the money.
