Williams Companies is a US natural gas pipeline operator headquartered in Tulsa , Oklahoma . The company was founded in 1908 in Fort Smith , Arkansas . It is listed in the S&P 500 stock index.

structure

Williams Companies holds approximately 58% of the shares in Williams Partners LP , the actual owner of the infrastructure. On January 1, 2012, natural gas production was split off as WPX Energy .

In mid-2016, Williams Companies was supposed to be acquired by Energy Transfer Equity , but Energy Transfer withdrew from the purchase agreement.

Business areas

Williams' three business areas are the exploration and production of natural gas, its processing and the operation of gas pipelines.

The production areas are located in the Rocky Mountains in the states of Colorado , Wyoming and New Mexico and in the southwest of the United States near Arkoma , Oklahoma and Fort Worth , Texas. The currently important production area is the Piceance Basin in Colorado. Annual production is around 8.6 billion m 3 .

Midstream

The midstream area includes various systems for natural gas processing and the separation of gas condensate as liquefied gas (NGL). The company operates an ethane pipeline between Louisiana and Texas . In addition to the facilities at the wells, Williams has facilities on the Gulf Coast and gas storage facilities in Kansas and Canada .

Pipelines

Williams in the United States has three gas pipelines with a total length of around 24,000 km and a total capacity of 340 million m 3 per day. The Northwest Pipeline runs from the Rocky Mountains (south of Colorado) to Plymouth (Washington). A branch line connects the American northwest coast from the Canadian border to the south of Oregon. The Transco pipeline runs from the Gulf region to the Atlantic coast ( New York City area ). Williams has been operating and expanding both pipe networks for over 50 years. The third pipeline opened in 2002 and runs from Louisiana through the Gulf of Mexico to Florida (Gulfstream). Together, these pipelines transport around twelve percent of the United States' natural gas consumption.
