Willibald Guggenmos

Willibald Guggenmos (* 1957 in Friedberg (Bavaria) ) is a German organist and church musician. He has been the cathedral organist at the cathedral in St. Gallen ( Switzerland ) since 2004 .

Life

Guggenmos completed his studies at the universities of music in Augsburg and Munich . From 1984 to 2001 he was organist at the Martinskirche in Wangen im Allgäu , where, in addition to his church music activities, he oversaw the “International Organ Concerts at St. Martin” and oratorios. In 1985 he played the entire organ works by Johann Sebastian Bach in eleven concerts. In the following years, complete performances of the works of César Franck , Léon Boëllmann , Franz Liszt , Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Johannes Brahms , Maurice Duruflé , Johann Gustav Eduard Stehle , as well as the great organ works by Max Reger , Marcel Dupré and Olivier Messiaen followed .

He is particularly interested in studying organ works by contemporary composers. Numerous works by composers have already been dedicated to him.

From 2001 to 2004 he worked as a church musician and organist at the Cathedral of Our Lady in Munich .

Willibald Guggenmos has been the cathedral organist at the cathedral in St. Gallen (Switzerland) since 2004. In addition to his liturgical obligations, he is the artistic director of the “International Cathedral Organ Concerts” and lecturer for organ playing at the music academy there.

Guggenmos has given concerts in many European countries, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China and on the West Indies. Furthermore, he was invited to festivals in Spain ( San Sebastian , Quincena Musical ), Austria ( Brucknerfest Linz ), Finland and Canada ( St. Joseph's Oratoire Montreal ).

His playing on important organs (including the largest organ in Switzerland , the Goll organ of the Engelberg collegiate church ; the Cavaillé-Coll organ in Azcoitia / Spain and the William- Hill organ of Sydney Town Hall ).
