Willie Lloyd Anderson Jr. (born January 8, 1967 in Greenville , South Carolina ) is a retired American basketball player . He played nine seasons in the NBA in the position of Shooting Guards ; the longest time of it for the San Antonio Spurs .

He is the older brother of former NBA player Shandon Anderson and the father of Alex Anderson, a player at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga .

Player career

After attending the University of Georgia , Anderson was drafted 10th in the 1988 NBA Draft by the Spurs . For the team from San Antonio he played until the 1994/95 season. He then worked briefly for the Toronto Raptors , who selected him in the 1995 expansion draft. He also played for the New York Knicks and the Miami Heat .

Then Anderson moved to Europe. He went to Greece to Olympiacos Piraeus and later to AEK Athens , with whom he moved into the FIBA EuroLeague 1998 Final Four. The next season he moved to Israel to Maccabi Tel Aviv , but was released shortly afterwards. Then Anderson resigned from active professional sport and ended his career.

Willie Anderson won the bronze medal with the US national team at the side of his future teammate David Robinson at the 1988 Summer Olympics .

After his first NBA season, Anderson was elected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1988/89.
