Willie Walsh

Willie Walsh (born January 16, 1935 in Roscrea , County Tipperary ) is an Irish clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Killaloe .

Life

After graduating from Corville National School in Roscrea and St. Flannan's College in Ennis , Walsh studied Roman Catholic theology at St. Patrick's College in Maynooth . He then studied at the Pontificial Irish College in Rome . On February 21, 1959 he received in Rome by Curia Archbishop Luigi Traglia the priesthood . After his ordination he studied canon law at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. After his return from Rome, Walsh taught for a year at Coláiste Einde in Galway and then from 1963 at St. Flannan's College in Ennis.

Pope John Paul II named him Coadjutor Bishop of Killaloe on June 21, 1994 . Even before his episcopal ordination he succeeded Michael Anthony Harty, who died on August 8 of the same year, as Bishop of Killaloe. On October 2, 1994, the Archbishop of Cashel and Emly , Dermot Clifford , donated him episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were Archbishop Emeritus of Tuam , Joseph Cassidy , and Fiachra Ó Ceallaigh OFM , Auxiliary Bishop in Dublin .

On May 18, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement. He was succeeded by Kieran O'Reilly .
