action

Doug and Lois Riley have been married for 30 years and live in Indianapolis . Eight years ago their only daughter was killed in a car accident, after which the married life of the two froze. Lois has not left the house since. Doug and his wife can't get over the death of their daughter, but tries to make his life as normal as possible despite the ongoing grief. He's had an affair with Vivien, a waitress in a restaurant, for a long time. Just before Doug travels to New Orleans for a convention , Vivien suffers a heart attack and dies.

Doug strolls the streets of New Orleans one evening and ends up in the red light district . In a strip club he meets the 16-year-old stripper and prostitute Mallory. When his business colleagues show up in the same place, Doug disappears into a back room with Mallory for fear of being seen. The girl assumes that Doug has clear intentions. Despite several advances, he only wants to talk to Mallory. She then thinks he is a cop and throws him out.

Doug later runs into the stripper at a diner and clarifies the matter. Mallory takes him to her demolished apartment, where he falls asleep next to her and suggests that she move in temporarily the next day. Mallory gets $ 100 a day for this without having to render him sexual services. Doug sees the runaway girl as a replacement for his daughter and wants to help her. He told his wife Lois by phone that he was not going to return home for the time being.

Lois sees their marriage in jeopardy and sets foot outside the door for the first time in eight years. Despite considerable efforts to control the car, she arrives in New Orleans and meets again with her husband, who is proud that his wife has overcome her phobia. Now he is forced to tell her about Mallory, which is a big shock for Lois at first. At first she refuses to live together, but eventually also moves in with Mallory. She also increasingly recognizes the resemblance of Mallory to her own daughter.

Doug and Lois now try to get the girl back on the right track, but they fail. Mallory refuses the close protection of Doug and Lois and runs away again. Lois realizes that she mustn't make the same mistake with Mallory as she did with her daughter, who she followed at night in the control madness, which apparently caused the fatal accident. Lois convinces Doug to let the girl go. They return to Indianapolis together.

Doug receives a call from Mallory, who is currently in Houston. He offers her that she can get help at any time. Mallory apologizes for their behavior and thanks them for their efforts. Then she makes her way to Las Vegas .

Reviews

“'Welcome to The Rileys' is a film about fathers, as director Jake Scott (son of Ridley Scott) explains. But it is also the story of a great collaboration between 'Sopranos' star James Gandolfini and 'Twilight' star Kristen Stewart. At this point we leave aside the fact that the film plot is not exactly the most innovative. His mischievous smile and her defiant teenage snout harmonize in a wonderful way, and Miss Stewart is in no way inferior to her older colleague in terms of charisma and strength of character. "
