Wilschanyk (Ukrainian Вільшаник ; Russian Ольшаник / Olschanyk , Polish Olszanik ) is a village in the Ukrainian Lviv Oblast in western Ukraine with about 1,330 inhabitants.
The village is located in the west of the historical landscape of Galicia in Sambir district on the Mocharka river (Мочарка), about 9 kilometers southeast of the Sambir district center and 71 kilometers southwest of the Lviv oblast center.
On August 9, 2015, the village became the center of the newly established rural community Wilschanyk (Вільшаницька сільська громада / Wilschanyzka silska hromada ) to this are also the eight villages Hlybotsch (Глибоч) Lopuschno (Лопушно) Lukawyzja (Лукавиця), Mala Sprynka (Мала Спринька), Monastyrez (Монастирець), Sprynja (Сприня), Tscherchava (Черхава) and Trojany (Трояни), until then it formed the district of Hlybotsch , Tschindeerchrats and Trojany Viljavakgeme .
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1423, was initially in the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania , Ruthenian Voivodeship , and in 1772 came as Olszanik to the then Austrian crown land of Galicia (until 1918 in the Sambor district ).
After the end of the First World War he came to Poland , was incorporated into the Lemberg , Powiat Sambor , Gmina Sambor Voivodeship as Olszanik from 1921 and was only occupied by the Soviet Union during World War II and by Germany from 1941 to 1944 and attached to the Galicia district . After being reconquered by Soviet troops in 1944, it came back to the Soviet Union in 1945 and was incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR , since 1991 the place has been part of today's Ukraine.
