Wind River is a film made in 1999 , which is based on historical events, which are passed down through memoirs of Elijah Nicholas Wilson (1842-1915).

In 1855, 13-year-old Nick Wilson, who lives on a farm with his widowed mother Martha Wilson, accepts an invitation to a nearby Shoshone village . The residents there are worried about a dream of one of the elders. Nick, however, is just happy to have an adventure one day. He takes part in exercises that his peers go through there to become Shoshone warriors. His ability to use a bow and arrow is soon put to the test when a tribe led by a feared warrior named Pocatello and a couple of "whites" endanger the village.

The film is based on the 1919 book "The White Indian Boy" by Elijah Nicholas Wilson and Howard R. Driggs .
