Winona is a small town in the US state of Arizona . It is located on the former Route 66 , about 19 kilometers east of Flagstaff .

history

The small place became world famous through the song Get Your Kicks on Route 66 , which was composed in January 1946 by Bobby Troup . The actually insignificant Winona was included in the song because Troup needed a rhyme for "Arizona".

This is how the famous line “Don't forget Winona!” (Don't forget Winona) came about. Over the years, the song was repeatedly re-recorded by numerous performers and actually ensured that Winona was not forgotten. In 2006 John Mayer recorded it as the soundtrack for the film Cars .

Winona previously belonged to Walnut Creek until the 1950s when it became part of Flagstaff . The Walnut Creek ("Walnut Creek") runs through Winona. Near the site of runs Canyon Diablo over which the Interstate 40 as successors of the route 66th
