Grand Canyon Village is a census-designated place in the northern US state of Arizona in Coconino County . The village is in the interior of the Grand Canyon National Park on the southern edge of the Grand Canyon . The village has 1460 inhabitants on an area of 34.8 km², almost all of them are employees of the national park or work in companies licensed by the national park. The central tourist infrastructure of the national park is located in Grand Canyon Village, with hotels, lodges, a visitor center and shopping facilities. But there is also a small medical emergency station, a prayer and prayer room for all religions and denominations and the park's former power station. Grand Canyon Village attracts 5 million visitors annually thanks to its location.
A large part of the buildings were erected when the Grand Canyon was first opened up shortly after 1900 and is now a listed building. The Grand Canyon Village Historic District is under ensemble protection and is designated as a National Historic Landmark District . The El Tovar Hotel , Grand Canyon Park Operations Building , Grand Canyon Power House, and the historic train station are individual National Historic Landmarks .
