action

Jeanne is on vacation in Sweden with her father Albert . Her 17th birthday is imminent and, like every year, she was allowed to choose in which country to spend her summer time. Jeanne will repeat the 11th grade in the next school year; her father, who works as a librarian, raised Jeanne on his own because her mother left the family when Jeanne was two to work as a teacher in New Zealand. Albert plans to go on a treasure hunt while on vacation, believing he can find the legendary treasure of the Viking Jan-Olof Vittfön here. When they both arrive at their holiday home, they are not alone. Landlord Anika switched the dates and believed that both would not arrive for two weeks. She currently lives in the house with her good friend Christine. The situation is uncomfortable for everyone, and so Anika and Christine promise to find new accommodation for themselves the next day.

The next day Jeanne and Albert visit Viking graves, where Albert goes on a treasure hunt with his metal detector . Jeanne gets to know the teenager Johan when Albert walks around with the detector in his parents' front yard. The rain finally drives Jeanne and Albert into a church and they both listen to the singing of the girls' choir. For Jeanne's birthday in a few days, they order a seat in the restaurant. When playing badminton with Anika and Christine, it later becomes clear that Albert is over-regulating and overly critical of his daughter. He'd rather throw himself in her way than risk her missing a ball. He finally falls during his maneuvers and seriously injures his leg. He is being treated by the island pastor, but can now not be as mobile as he would have to be for his treasure hunt. Because he is tied to the holiday home, Jeanne now spends time more often with Anika and Christine, who, with Albert's consent, spend the holidays with them. Jeanne sees Johan again in a supermarket, while Anika meets her great childhood sweetheart Per, whom she suddenly left and who now has a wife and two children. On the way home, Christine's bike suddenly dies. Johan takes Jeanne and his bike to her holiday home, while Christine follows Jeanne's bike. On the phone, the costume designer Christine learns that her boyfriend needs a distance from her. Johan invites Jeanne to a concert of his band for the evening. Albert, who sees both of them talking, reacts critically and dismissively. In the evening she wants to see Anika and Christine, who are already at the concert, but Albert does not let her go. Only when she accuses him of always making decisions for her does Albert give in.

At the concert, Anika meets Per again, who confronts her for her disappearance at the time. He has waited a long time for her. Christine sadly watches Jeanne, who is dancing to the music of Johan's band. Johan later invites Jeanne to go to the beach with him and his friends. Jeanne returns to the holiday home with Christine and Anika and then secretly goes to the beach. However, Johan has fun with other girls. The young Magnus flirts with her, but she is disinterested in him and later on endures his caresses without emotion. When the group wants to move on to the house of one of the boys, they drive back to the holiday home alone. She cries while driving. In the meantime Albert has been looking for her, where he briefly got closer to Christine. When Jeanne comes into her room, he turns away from his daughter without a word. The next day is her birthday. Although Albert wants to meet her in the restaurant in the evening as planned, he spends the day alone. He rows a kayak to an island where he suspects Jan-Olof Vittfön's treasure. While he's on the island, his kayak drifts off. In the evening Jeanne waits in vain for Albert in the restaurant. She sees his kayak being towed by the Coast Guard and alerts Christine and Anika. Fischer Per drove to all the islands in the area with Anika and finally found Albert. In the meantime he has cursed his treasure hunt and threw the metal detector into the sea. Back on land, he immediately phoned Jeanne. He also says goodbye to Christine, who is leaving early: After separating from her boyfriend, she has agreed to go on a longer theater tour. She will be back in Paris in six months and Albert, who has taken a liking to her, promises to be there. Anika and Per got closer while searching for Albert. Jeanne takes revenge on Johan by breaking the rear light of his moped. After all the incidents, she comes to life and rides her bike around with a happy smile.

criticism

The film-dienst called We Are All Grown an "entertaining coming-of-age film", which has dramaturgical weaknesses, but is "appealing as a light-handed episodic summer comedy in the psychological development of characters and in the expansion of tension arcs". Cinema compared the film with works by Eric Rohmer and stated that Anna Novion tells of the loss of cherished habits with "playful composure [...]".
