action

Jim Morar and his girlfriend Linda Brewster are having a party for the inauguration of their new home. Among the guests is Linda's ex-boyfriend Brandon Sinclair - much to the displeasure of the host Jim, who, out of jealousy, is anything but good at talking to his childhood friend Brandon. Later on in the party, Brandon presents his battered witchboard . With the help of his ex-girlfriend Linda, he shows the audience that he has managed to get in touch with the deceased ten-year-old David. Shortly afterwards, however, the dispute between Jim and Brandon escalates, who then goes home, leaving the witchboard in the house in a hurry.

Impressed by the effect of the witchboard, Linda tries on the following days to contact the world of the dead David herself. In fact, based on the inspiration of the witchboard, she succeeds in finding a long-lost diamond ring . Little does Linda suspect that with the Witchboard she is surrendering the thirst for revenge of a long dead ghost.

After Linda did not keep the date agreed with Brandon to return the witchboard and a phone call with Linda was abruptly interrupted, Brandon goes to the construction site, where Jim works as a carpenter . However, for the time being, Jim ignores the warning words from Brandon about the dangers of incorrectly using the witchboard. Jim had already found out for himself what a terrible effect the spirit of the witchboard had. A few days ago, Lloyd, a colleague of his, was killed in a mysterious industrial accident on the construction site. While he was still arguing with Brandon, Jim received a phone call from his housekeeper Mrs. Moses, who told him that she had found Linda completely upset after using the witchboard. Jim decides to accept Brandon's offer to use a medium to drive the ghost out of the house.

The spiritual eviction seems to be successful, but when Brandon drives the medium Zarabeth home, Zarabeth doubts that it was the ghost of a ten-year-old boy. She also warns him of a great danger, starting from a Portuguese "Malfeitor". That same night, the ghost begins the next act and lets the medium Zarabeht rush out of her apartment, fatally injuring her.

Not only the circumstances surrounding the death of Zarabeht are unsettling to Jim and Brandon, but also the finding that Linda did not return the witchboard to Brandon as intended, but only its empty container after the ghost expulsion. More and more Jim is persuaded by Brandon that Linda is "possessed" by David's ghost, especially when he sees as an eyewitness how Linda is hit and pushed by the "ghost" in the room.

After Linda was admitted to hospital injured, Jim joins Brandon to drive with him to "Big Bear", the alleged place where "David" died. During their research, the two can find out that ten years ago David was killed in a gas explosion on a raft. They buy a new witchboard and try to get in touch with David, also on a raft. For the time being, David speaks in riddles, slowly letting the two know that he had spoken neither to Linda nor to the medium Zarabeht, but rather that all those messages came from “evil”, the “evil” the spirit of “Malfeitor "Is which is" here ".

No sooner has this message been conveyed on the witchboard than the tethered barrels loosen on the raft. Not the falling barrels lead to the death of Brandon, but an ax struck in his head with an invisible hand. After Brandon dies, Jim tries to find out more about Malfeitor. He learns that Carlos Malfeitor was a mass murderer who murdered nine people with an ax before he was shot himself in his home in 1930 - this is the house of Jim and Linda!

Jim immediately drives home to Linda, who has left the hospital. In the apartment, Linda has seized the witchboard again and was harassed and "taken possession" by the spirit of Malfeitor. Arriving at home, Jim finds a completely destroyed furniture before he is attacked by Malfeitor, inside Linda's body, armed with an ax. In the following fight, Jim finally manages to break away from Malfeitor's ghost with targeted shots into the witchboard, but falls out of the window door, injuring himself.

In the final scene, Jim (with a ruff ) and Linda get married in a church.
