Vyacheslav Genievich Rumynin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vyacheslav Genievich Rumynin ( Russian Вячеслав Гениевич Румынин ; born November 16, 1951 ) is a Russian geologist and university professor .

Life

Rumynin graduated from the Leningrad Mining Institute in 1975.

After completing his studies, Rumynin worked as a hydrogeologist at the Leningrad Giproruda Institute for project planning for mining companies from 1975 to 1978 . He then became a research assistant at the Leningrad Mining Institute as an aspirant . In 1981 he defended his candidate dissertation on mass transport in fissured and porous rocks in connection with the protection of groundwater in the mining areas of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly . In 1988 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the theory and practice of mass transport research in the investigation of technology-related pollution of groundwater in mining areas.

Rumynin's research focus was the development of physical - mathematical and hydro geochemical models for the quantitative modeling of geofiltration and groundwater migration. With his results he made important contributions to the mass and heat exchange in the hydrosphere . He analyzed the processes of groundwater pollution in the area of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly , on the Kola Peninsula , in the Western Urals , in Eastern Siberia and in Ukraine, as well as analogous oil problems in Tatarstan .

Rumynin has received funds for his research projects from the Russian Fund for Basic Research , the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) and the Swiss National Science Foundation . He has received individual grants from the Fulbright Program and the Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) . He was visiting scholar at the University of Minnesota (1992) and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (1994, 1997-1998). He was an environmental expert at the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran .

Rumynin became vice director of the Institute for Geoecology (IGE) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN), which was founded in Moscow in 1996 and named after Yevgeny Mikhailovich Sergeyev . When the founding director Valery Alexandrovich Mironenko of the Leningrad Department of the IGE died in 2000, Rumynin became his successor and also director of the Interfaculty Research Center for Hydrogeoecology at the University of St. Petersburg , where he had become Professor of the Chair of Hydrogeology . In 2003 he was elected a corresponding member of the RAN. In 2004 he received the Savarensky Prize of the RAN together with Valery Alexandrowitsch Mironenko for the monograph on the problems of hydrogeoecology.
