The Vitebskaja Woblasz ( Belarusian Віцебская вобласць ; Russian Витебская область / Vitebskaja Oblast ) is an administrative district in northern Belarus . Capital of Woblasz is Wizebsk (whiteR. Віцебск ; russ. Витебск / Witebsk).

The Woblasz covers around 40,000 km² and has 1,321,100 inhabitants (2004), including many Russians . Many people were resettled in Vitebskaya Woblasz from areas in southern Belarus that were contaminated by the Chernobyl disaster .
