Woldemar Reinhold von Glasenapp ( Russian Волдемар Александрович Глазенап * 26. June 1812 in Walk ( Estonian Valga ); † 18th July 1895 in Tartu ) was Vice-Admiral of the Imperial Russian Fleet , General of the Army , War Governor and Customs Director of Arkhangelsk , and Real State . He was the brother of Gottlieb Friedrich Alexandrowitsch von Glasenapp .

Life and military background

On February 27, 1826 he was promoted to ensign and in this rank he took part in the world tour to Kamchatka in the years 1826–1829 under the command of the captain MN Stanjukowitsch on the sloop "Möller" , during which the Kure Atoll was discovered has been.

On April 27, 1866, von Glasenapp returned to the service and was assigned to the Ministry of State Property of the Russian Empire. In 1872 he joined the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Empire and held the position of first member of the St. Petersburg Land Customs . In 1882 he was dismissed from service as a privy councilor. He published many articles in the Marine Collection magazine.

In his second marriage, he was married to Annette von Glasenapp, the daughter of Wilhelm Otto von Glasenapp , who was the lady-in-waiting of the Tsarina. In total, he was married three times and died in 1895 with no heirs.

Namesake

An island in the Tartar Strait between Sakhalin and the mainland was named after him "von Glasenapp Island" ( Russian : Остров Глазенапа, Ostrov Glazenapa , coordinates: 51 ° 54'0.00 "N 141 ° 19'60.00" E).
