Wolf-Rüdiger Arnold
Wolf-Rüdiger Arnold , previously Wolf Arnold , (born September 20, 1939 in Leipzig ) is a German writer who has published short stories and novels in the GDR and reunified Germany .
Life
Wolf Arnold was born in Leipzig in 1939 as the son of a farmer and a stenographer . The early half-orphan was forced to train as a tool fitter, which Arnold completed from 1953 to 1955. From 1956 to 1975 he worked as a repair fitter. During this time he attended the adult education center , where he took his Abitur with difficulty in 1963. Since the job he was pushed into did not suit his inclinations, he described himself as a "clumsy locksmith", which is why he set one of his three childhood dreams in mind and applied for a place in medicine at the University of Jena . After the rejection, he took up distance learning at the engineering school for mechanical engineering in Leipzig, specializing in technology . In September 1975 he completed this. In the same year he enrolled in a special course at the "Johannes R. Becher" Institute for Literature in Leipzig in order to realize another of his childhood dreams, namely to become a writer. From 1976 he lived as a freelance writer. In 1981 he was accepted into the writers' association of his country. In 1984/85 he took an advanced course at the Leipzig Institute of Literature.
In the GDR, some of his publications received positive and some negative reviews .
At the end of the GDR , two of the radio play scenarios he had designed in the meantime were produced and broadcast as short radio plays by the GDR radio.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall , Arnold worked as a coordinator for the job creation measure (ABM) at the Förderkreis Freie Literaturgesellschaft e. V. employed in Leipzig. Between 2005 and 2011 he published a new book every year, in some cases drawing on records, unpublished manuscripts or even what was already printed in the GDR. He has been a member of the Association of German Writers (VS) since 1990.
