In 1944 he was involved in founding the DATA film cooperative and shot numerous industrial films for this company . In 1950 he made his feature film debut with the short crime film No Resting Place , but it was not until the 1960s that Suschitzky began to receive more feature films. At the same time, he continued to work as a photographer, shot commercials and television series and also tried his hand at book illustrator.

photography

For Wolf Suschitzky, in whose work the depiction of work and workers occupies a central place, documentary photography consisted of the sympathetic, commentary depiction of social conditions: "The photographer who comes into contact with human suffering is usually partial". At the beginning of his career he photographed classic commissioned work for magazines such as Picture Post , Illustrated or Lilliput, later most of his photographs were taken alongside his work as a cameraman. It is characteristic of his photographic work that it is often not possible to clearly distinguish between his fields of activity, that he often used film and photo cameras almost at the same time, which can lead to special aesthetic effects, such as motifs existing multiple times in different contexts or documentary photography on The margins of film productions arise. Most of his photographic estate is in the FOTOHOF archive .
