Wolfgang Becker (politician)

Wolfgang Becker (born January 18, 1938 in Wanne-Eickel ) is a German educator and politician ( SPD ).

Life

After graduating from high school, Becker studied electrical engineering, Protestant theology and German at the universities of Hanover , Bonn and Münster from 1958 to 1964 . He finished his studies with the state examination for teaching and then entered the school service of the city of Wanne-Eickel as a secondary school teacher . From 1975 to 1995 he was the rector of the Strünkede secondary school in Herne . Becker is married, has three sons and several grandchildren.

Becker is a member of the SPD. He was councilor of the city of Herne from 1948 and from 1989 to 1994 chairman of the SPD parliamentary group.

Becker served as Lord Mayor of Herne from October 1994 to October 2004 . Since August 1, 1995, after the senior city director's office was dissolved, he was the first full-time mayor. After his retirement he mainly devotes himself to charitable groups, mainly the Herner Tafel .
