Wolfgang Burde

Wolfgang Burde (born October 18, 1930 in Berlin ; † September 20, 2013 ibid.) Was a German musicologist , music teacher and music critic .

Life

Wolfgang Burde first studied music education in Berlin, then musicology, sociology and philosophy in Tübingen. He did his doctorate with Hans Heinz Stuckenschmidt with a study of the principles and types of form of Mozart's piano sonatas and in 1969 became professor of musicology at the PH Berlin ; since 1981 he has taught at the Berlin University of the Arts .

Burde has published works on problems in new music , on jazz and on music-sociological issues. For many years he was a music critic for several daily newspapers (including the Berliner Tagesspiegel ) and for radio stations. From 1979 to 1981 he was editor-in-chief of the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik . He has written books about the composers Igor Stravinsky , György Ligeti and Aribert Reimann , among others .

Wolfgang Burde died in Berlin in 2013 at the age of 83. His grave is in the Dahlem cemetery .
