Scientific life and work

Wolfgang Eichhorn studied mathematics and economics at the Universities of Würzburg and Munich . In 1954 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania Würzburg . PhD in mathematics in 1962 at the University of Würzburg . He completed his economics studies in 1964 with a diploma. In 1966 he completed his habilitation in mathematics.

His scientific work focuses on mathematics: algebra, functional equations; in economics: production theory, price theory via game theory, growth theory, distribution theory; in statistics: measurement concepts and measurements in business; in insurance science: underwriting risk, macroeconomic aspects of risk management.

Wolfgang Eichhorn's scientific work includes around 200 papers in international journals (including the leading journals Aequationes Mathematicae , American Economic Review , Archive of Mathematics , Bio Science , Econometrica , Journal for pure and applied mathematics , Journal of Economic Theory , Journal of Mathematical Economics , Mathematical Methods of Operations Research , Mathematische Zeitschrift , Social Choice and Welfare ) and 15 books (publishers: Addison-Wesley, Springer Verlag and others).

Visiting professorships took him to the University of Bonn , University of British Columbia (Vancouver), University of California, Berkeley , University of Southern California (Los Angeles), University of Waterloo , WU Vienna .

He worked as a reviewer for the Federal Cartel Office , the German Research Foundation , the Munich Reinsurance Company , the KIT's Interfacultative Institute for Entrepreneurship and for numerous other institutions, in particular scientific publishers.

On his 60th birthday (1993), W. Erwin Diewert ( UBC ), Klaus Spremann ( University of St. Gallen ) and Frank Stehling ( University of Ulm ) published the commemorative publication Mathematical Modeling in Economics (Springer-Verlag). The volume contains 67 articles on the title topic, as well as the list of publications by Wolfgang Eichhorn.
