Wolfgang Hörlin

Wolfgang Hörlin (* 1955 ) is a German classical organist and university professor .

Life

Wolfgang Hörlin studied school and church music , organ and improvisation with Franz Lehrndorfer and Gerhard Weinberger . From 1983 to 1994 he was a lecturer in organ literature and liturgical organ playing at the church music school (today the University for Catholic Church Music and Music Education ) in Regensburg . In 1992 he received a scholarship from the Bavarian Ministry of Culture to study at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris .

Since 1994 he has been a lecturer for organ, organ improvisation, liturgical organ playing and piano improvisation in the subject of film music composition at the University of Music and Theater in Munich . Hörlin has been the monastery organist at the Pope Benedict Organ of the Collegiate Church of the Old Chapel in Regensburg since 2009 and has been the collegiate bandmaster there since 2012 , succeeding Josef Kohlhäufl .

Wolfgang Hörlin combines organ improvisation with other art forms and works with artists, for example, in text readings or pantomime . He has a high affinity for the interpretation of contemporary organ literature.

  • 1989: 1st European organ improvisation competition in Schwäbisch Gmünd. (2nd prize)
  • 1990: International Organ Improvisation Competition in Haarlem
  • 1993: Johann Pachelbel Prize at the international organ improvisation competition of the 42nd International Organ Week Nuremberg (ION)
