Wolfgang Held (writer, 1933)

Wolfgang Held (born August 15, 1933 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † December 11, 2016 in London ) was a German writer and translator.

Life

Wolfgang Held did his doctorate in 1960 at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau with a thesis on Georg Trakl as a doctor of philosophy . Held, who has lived as a freelance writer, translator and pianist in London since 1973 , has published his own literary works since 1965. In 1983 he took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt .

Wolfgang Held was the author of novels , short stories , essays and biographies ; he also translated from English .

In 1983 Wolfgang Held received the literary prize of the cultural group in the Federal Association of German Industry and in 1994 the Berganza Prize of the Bamberg Art Association for Hoffmann's burning , Held's only play.
