Wolfgang Kalähne

Wolfgang Kalähne (born January 7, 1945 in Sopot ) is a flotilla admiral a. D. of the German Navy . Today he is a lobbyist and entrepreneur .

Life

Kalähne joined the German Armed Forces in 1966 as a member of Crew IV / 66. Two years later he began his aviation training at Uetersen Air Base , and as a jet pilot at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas . Kalähne received operational training on the Starfighter weapon system in Phoenix , Arizona . This led to his first aviation assignment in the Marinefliegergeschwader 2 in Eggebek , where he held various posts at the squadron and group level.

After taking part in the 20th admiral staff course at the command academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg from 1978 onwards, he went through various staff and management positions, including as adjutant to the then Inspector of the Navy Ansgar Bethge , as commodore of Naval Air Wing 1 and as head of defense and armed forces planning in the international Staff at NATO headquarters in Brussels. In his last employment from 2001 onwards, he was in command of the naval aviation flotilla . During this time he was also deployed for six months as part of Operation Enduring Freedom as commander of the multinational task force in the Horn of Africa and commander of the German task force.

From April 2005 to January 2006 he was also the commander of Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 ( SNMG 1 ). The frigate Bavaria under the command of frigate captain Jörg Klein served as his flagship from April to November , and then the frigate Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania until January 2006 . During this time, the SNMG 1 was also involved in Operation Active Endeavor .

After his departure from the German Armed Forces, on July 1, 2007, Kalähne became managing director of the Defense Industry Committee of the Federation of German Industries .

From 2011 to 2015 Kalähne worked at United Technologies Corporation (UTC).

Kalähne has been married since 1968 and has two children (* 1971 and * 1978) and a grandson (* 2001). He lives in Kiel .
