Web videos and podcasts

Schmitt has been running the YouTube channel Die Filmanalyse since 2011 . In the videos he devotes himself to films - often new releases - and analyzes them critically . He does not limit himself to art house films, but also discusses blockbusters such as the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe , Disney publications in general or Til Schweiger's work. His reviews have many references to the work of Karl Marx and the Frankfurt School . Schmitt also attests to many supposedly apolitical films as neoliberal set pieces and thought patterns. In his view, a film always says something about the society in which it is made, referring to Siegfried Kracauer . The aim of the "Film Analysis" is to make the quirks of earlier television formats of the educated middle class , such as the literary quartet to obtain, for movie fans on YouTube. He works without the cuts and clips typical for YouTube, but relies on a simple setting and a largely uncut monologue.

In 2017 he appeared for the first time on the online portal Massengeschmack-TV and occasionally produced reviews of Internet phenomena in the style of film analysis for Holger Kreymeier's magazine Die Mediatheke . As a film specialist, Schmitt has also been a regular guest in the formats of Rocket Beans TV since 2018 , especially in their cinema magazine Kino + .

In 2019 Schmitt expanded his repertoire and started some co-produced podcasts with different topics. At the beginning of August he started the YouTube channel SchallalaBla together with Michael "Krogi" Krogmann from Rocket Beans TV to talk about temporary music and its social significance. Shortly thereafter, the weekly podcast Prosperity for All followed , in which he and Ole Nymoen tried to explain economically complex issues in an understandable way and to uncover economic myths. The title refers to the book of the same name by Ludwig Erhard .

Schmitt takes a critical look at political events in the format of the political analysis , which has appeared as a new section on the Jung & Naiv channel since summer 2019 . In it he summarizes a sequence of interviews and contrasts the essential core statements. At the end of 2019, Schmitt and Stefan Schulz announced a ten-year project, the monthly podcast The New Twenties about the new decade of the 2020s .

During the contact restrictions imposed since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic , he worked several times as a co-moderator in Tilo Jung's replacement interview format Jung & Live .
