Wolfgang Roth (psychologist)

Wolfgang Roth (* 1939 in Bad Wildungen ) is a German professor of psychology from Freiburg im Breisgau .

Life and accomplishments

After an apprenticeship as a locksmith, he passed the Abitur at an evening grammar school in Mainz. Afterwards, Wolfgang Roth studied psychology, philosophy and education in Mainz and Hamburg. He obtained a diploma in psychology and a doctorate. From 1966 to 1973 he was an assistant at the University of Giessen in Hildegard Hetzer . This was followed by teaching at various types of schools, especially comprehensive schools. He then became a lecturer and in 1973 professor for psychology at the Freiburg University of Education . From 1984 to 1985 he was visiting professor for sociology and social psychology at Stetson University in Deland , Florida , USA . In addition to his work as a university lecturer, he conducted numerous teacher training courses abroad (Sri Lanka, Ukraine, Italy). From around 1995 to 2006 Wolfgang Roth dedicated himself to the project Humanistic Psychology and Pedagogy (ie general introduction, bioenergetics, conversation and counseling, Gestalt psychology and pedagogy, art, music and play therapy, mediation, moral pedagogy, psychodrama, topic-centered interaction and transactional Analysis).

Roth retired in 2004, but continues to be involved in teacher and trainer training, study seminars and in advising schools and independent organizations on projects and evaluation . Since 2006 he has been teaching at the University of Giessen on the subject of developing social skills in primary and secondary schools .

Wolfgang Roth was a volunteer for 31 years and was part of the board of the spiel gut working committee for children's games and toys in Ulm, which tests and assesses games and toys for children and gives recommendations for parents. His writing culture and personality development in play underlines his work there.

At the PH Freiburg, he set up a peace office and, in addition to numerous events, organized several international congresses and conferences on the subject. In 1976 he was a co-founder of the Südwind Freiburg - Association for Social and Intercultural Work eV , which, with its ten employees and around 30 volunteers, is involved in initial migration counseling , homework help, youth work , literacy and language courses for women.

In 1995, Wolfgang Roth developed a training and further education program in humanistic psychology and pedagogy (HPP) in collaboration with the Academy for Scientific Further Education at the PH and University of Freiburg , which he supervised and further developed scientifically until 2006.
