Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (Original title: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs ) is an American children's book by Judi Barrett and illustrated by her husband, Ron Barrett . It was first published in 1978 by the Simon & Schuster publishing house Atheneum Books , followed by a trade paperback edition published in 1984 by the sister company Aladdin Paperbacks . Based on a 2007 survey, the National Education Association placed the book in the category of Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children . It was one of the top 100 picture books of all time in 2012 based on another poll conducted by the School Library Journal .

A sequel, Pickles to Pittsburg , was published in 2000, also by Aladdin Books, and a "hardcover" edition followed in 2009 . A second sequel, Planet of the Pies , was released on August 27, 2013.

Summarized

The book tells of a bedtime story told by a grandfather to his grandchildren, which tells of the everyday life of the citizens of Chewandswallow, which is characterized by its daily meteorological pattern. The city is supplied by the meals that rain daily from the sky. A sudden sudden change in weather brings uncontrollable storms, storms and unnaturally large, dangerous food into the city, where the residents enjoyed their lifestyle so much. With their lives now endangered by the storms, they are now drastically changing their everyday lives. You take advantage of the storm. However, they are gradually being forced to learn how to get food in a completely normal way.

The next morning the man's grandchildren wake up to watch the snowfall. After rushing out to play in the snow. Sequels

The sequel to the story, Pickles to Pittsburgh , tells of the children who receive a postcard from their grandfather who claims to be looking at the ruins of the fictional town of Chewandswallow . Then the children go to bed and dream that they would be there with their grandfather and help him restore the apocalyptic landscape and make the city back to what it once was. But further, coming “food storms” threaten to destroy the wonderful plan.

The third book in the series was published on August 27, 2013.

Film adaptations

18 September 2009, published Sony Pictures Animation , a computer-animated - 3D film adaptation . The accompanying DVD was released on January 5, 2010. For the plot development of the film, a new cast for the characters and instead of food falling from the sky, a food-producing machine was adopted in the script. At the same time as the film was released on September 18, 2009, Ubisoft released a video game for the Nintendo DS , PC , PlayStation 3 , PlayStation Portable , Wii and Xbox 360 . as well as an online mini game.

series

On October 9, 2014, it was announced that an animation series tentatively titled Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: The Series was in the works. For the series, Sony Pictures Animation is working with DHX Media , who is responsible for production, and initially ordered 26 episodes of 22 minutes each. Merchandise is also planned for the series . The series tells the adventures of Flint Lockwood and his inventions in high school . Sam Sparks is new to Swallow Falls and dreams of becoming a star reporter.

The series started in German-speaking countries in June 2017 under the name Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs .
