prehistory

The England and Wales Cricket Board intended to establish a franchise-based cricket tournament for women. It was supposed to be the largest tournament in the northern hemisphere and was based on the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), which started in Australia in 2015. In addition to English national players, players from New Zealand , West Indies and Australia were also signed . When it was founded, the ECB put in place a four-year plan totaling £ 3 million. For sponsorship reasons, the tournament was marketed as the Kia Super League . The BBC secured the broadcasting rights for the radio broadcasts . It secured the rights to 7 matches as well as the finals day and broadcast them on Test Match Special .
