The Vorkuta ( Russian Воркута́ ) is a right tributary of the Ussa in the Komi Republic and in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug in north-western Russia .
The Vorkuta has its origin in Lake Bolshaya Vorkuta (Chassyrei-Ty) west of the Polarurale . It flows first along the border between the Komi Republic and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug in a south-westerly direction. Then it turns east to the Komi Republic and finally to the south-southwest. It flows through the urban-type Severny settlement and the city of Vorkuta . The Vorkuta joins the Ussa on the right. It has a length of 182 km and drains an area of 4550 km². Vorkuta is ice-free between the beginning of June and October.
