World Social Capital Monitor
The World Social Capital Monitor is an instrument for measuring social goods and social capital , which is created by the United Nations in partnership with civil society actors. In the project, social values such as trust, solidarity, helpfulness, friendliness and hospitality and the willingness to finance public goods are determined using anonymised surveys. The surveys started in 2016 and so far 30,000 participants from 141 countries have taken part. The unique software platform of the World Social Capital Monitor was developed by the sociologist Dr. Alexander Dill from the Basel Institute of Commons and Economicsand the computer scientist Nazmus Saquib from the Technical University of Munich . The results are expected to provide new insights into the achievement of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals and provide an alternative to traditional indices such as the Human Development Index , as it takes into account intangible factors.
As part of the World Social Capital Monitor, the subjectively perceived friendliness of the residents of various major German cities was also determined using surveys. Comparable surveys have already been carried out in Austria .
methodology
The monitor is determined using 8 questions that can be rated with a number from 1 to 10. A 1 represents the worst possible value (e.g. lowest friendliness) and 10 the best possible value (e.g. greatest trust).
- Social climate (How do you rate the social climate in your place of residence?)
- Trust (How high is the trust among people?)
- Restrictions (Would people accept personal restrictions on financing public goods such as security, health, education, nature conservation, infrastructure, social aid, public media, culture?)
- Taxes and duties ( Do people accept taxes and duties to finance public goods such as security, health, education, nature conservation, infrastructure, social aid, public media, culture ?)
- Investing locally (Are people willing to invest in local and regional values (such as cooperatives, municipal bonds and small businesses)?)
- Willingness to help (willingness to help among people?)
- Friendliness (friendliness among people?)
- Hospitality (hospitality among people?)
Results
