Wotho ( Marshallese Wōtto [ ɔ̯ɔ͡ʌtˠːʌ͡ɔɔ̯ ]; German outdated: Schantzinsel ) is an atoll of the Ralik chain of the Marshall Islands . The atoll has a land area of 4.33 km², which encloses a lagoon of 94.92 km².
The German Johan Eberhard von Schantz discovered the atoll on a circumnavigation on behalf of the Russian Navy.
The atoll was radioactively contaminated by the atomic tests on Bikini Atoll , vegetables such as asparagus are inedible due to the contaminated soil and must be imported.
