Ebon (formerly: Boston Islands or Boston Island ) is the southernmost atoll of the Ralik chain of the Marshall Islands . The atoll has a land area of ​​5.7 km², which encloses a lagoon of 108.4 km². The atoll has navigable access to the sea in the southwest.

Ebon was the first atoll in the Marshall Islands to be proselytized (1852).

The atoll had a population of 741 in 1999. While the island councils are elected on the remaining 23 inhabited islands or atolls and have a strength between five ( Likiep ) and 25 ( Ailinglaplap ) depending on the atoll , the Ebon Atoll Council has 83 members, each Family sends a member.

Five of the atoll's 22 islands are inhabited. The 1999 census shows seven places, three of which are on the main island of Jitoen (Jittoen), which includes 402 of the 741 inhabitants of the atoll. The largest town with 267 inhabitants is Toka on the westernmost island of the atoll of the same name. The elongated, curved main island takes up the entire south and southeast of the atoll. The island is around 12 kilometers long and up to 900 meters wide in the west, but only a good 40 meters in places.

Numerous species of birds are native to the atoll, including a. Frigate birds and terns .

On January 30, 2014, the Salvadoran José Salvador Alvarenga was found by locals on the beach of an island in the immediate vicinity of the Ebon Atoll. He said he came here from Chiapas , Mexico , after an involuntary journey of more than 13 months in his fishing boat through the ocean currents . The distance between the two points is 10,800 km.
