action

Divorced Zoe Jensen moves from Omaha to San Francisco to rebuild her life. She reluctantly left her little son with her parents because she wants to stand on her own two feet financially. Although she is a trained teacher, she is considering retraining as an office worker in order to get a job soon. In her spare time, she joins a local church choir led by retired music director Ephraim Adams. Adams is working on improving the quality of the choir so that it can perform Handel's Messiah at a Christmas concert. That pushes the choir members to their limits, because not all are trained opera singers. The spectrum ranges from students to simple, but quite talented parishioners. The amateurs do their best, after all, they only sacrifice their time for the love of music. This love extends far beyond the choir and is exemplified when the choir members team up to repair the broken organ pipes. After the choir director unexpectedly collapses and suffers a heart attack, the performance, which is supposed to take place in a week, is in great danger. After the choir members sit down and discuss for a long time, they find a solution and so the Messiah performance in the church is a great success. Choir director Adams can experience everything from his wheelchair and is enthusiastic. The choir has developed from a group of individualists into a real community and has become a "family".

criticism

"Occasionally all too sentimental Christmas story about Handel's ['] Messiah ' oratorio, created for television."
