A throwing alarm clock is an alarm clock that has to be thrown against a wall or on the floor to switch off the alarm signal .

description

Throwing alarm clocks with imaginative product names such as Time Flys or Smash are available in numerous variations. As a rule, the devices are spherical , as they are mostly replicas of balls that are used in various sports . There are, for example, football , golf , tennis or baseball throwing alarm clocks and the variant of a rugby throwing alarm clock in the special form of an elongated ellipsoid of rotation . As a precaution, the manufacturers expressly point out that the devices may not be used for normal sporting activities.

All round throw alarms include a flat base as an accessory, which is intended to prevent rolling away from the bedside table. The throwing alarm clocks weigh approx. 20 g and with a diameter of approx. 10 cm are just big enough that they can still be easily gripped with one hand. The ball-shaped devices are hollow on the inside. They are made from the robust plastic PVC . On one side of the alarm clock there is a small, battery-operated component with a digital time display and various setting options for the time and alarm time.

For McDonald's was in 2003 a throw alarm clock with crowing buzzer as the grouse - plush figure made. There are also throwing alarm clocks in an orange bouncy ball design and a Star Wars throwing alarm clock with the slogan “Wake up the Sith in you”.

use

The use of a throwing alarm should, according to the manufacturer, stimulate the circulation of the awakened person through the required strong throwing movement . This effect is increased if the throw was not carried out with enough force so that the acoustic signal does not stop. The device that rolls away and continues to give signals must then be searched for in the room and thrown again. The concentration required when throwing, so that a window or a mirror does not accidentally break, accelerates the waking up process. Another effect of powerful throwing is the reduction of aggressiveness that can develop in the person who is torn from sleep in relation to the device that disrupts the rest. Throwing alarm clocks are therefore particularly suitable for morning grouches .

In an article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung from December 2005, the alternative wake-up device is described as a "substitute for morning grudges and a must for morning exercise fanatics".
