XRace

Started in 2006 on Altonaer Strasse

The XRace is Berlin's only just-in-line race that takes place on public roads. It is organized by SC Charlottenburg (SCC). The organization is carried out by the SCC XSpeed Team Berlin, the inline skating department of the SCC.

The route is a little more than four kilometers long circuit on the Straße des 17. Juni ( Big Star ). It started in Altonaer Straße until 2009, since then directly on the route a few meters east of the Victory Column . The road is flat, wide and mostly well paved. Except for the two switchbacks on Klopstockstraße (west) and in front of Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße (east), the route is not particularly difficult and is therefore very fast. In addition to competitions over the half marathon distance, the offer includes separate runs for popular sport and junior runs for schoolchildren and youth age groups (Kids Cup).

The XRace was held for the first time in 2002 and was a race over the marathon distance of the Jever Blade Challenge created in the same year . After the main run, the amateur athletes took to the track in a separate race.

In 2003 the men ran the marathon distance and the women actually ran the half marathon distance. Due to a mistake by the marshals, the women were led into the home straight one lap too early.

In 2004 the German championships over the half marathon distance took place here. The evening before, on the occasion of the One Million City of Lights Berlin campaign, an attempt was made to light this number of candles as a symbol for children in need in the world . The wax that had dripped onto the ground could only be removed to a limited extent and, despite ideal weather conditions, made the road very slippery in places.

In 2005 there was a chain of events in the women's finish sprint, which resulted in several falls during the finish sprint ( see below ). From 2006 the women will run their own race on the track.

In 2007 the XRace was upgraded with the World Cup B status and some top international skaters came to Berlin. In retrospect, it was found that the route was incorrect. The eastern hairpin was set up in the wrong place and shortened the half marathon to 19.5 km.

In 2008 the XRace became part of the newly created German Inline Cup in addition to its World Cup status .

The XRace has been held again since 2016. The venue has been the Spreewaldring in Waldow since 2016 .

Trivia

  • 2005: The top women met the stragglers of men shortly before and at the finish. Due to the difference in speed and the skaters scattered across the whole width, they ran up without having a way out. There was also the fact that vehicles were parked on the roadside, which narrowed the run-out after the finish. The referee (motorcycle), who rode in the lead of the women to ensure that, in addition to compliance with the competition rules, those overtaken, was not there at this moment. The majority of the stragglers did not notice the approaching Frauenfeld or did so too late and there were various falls at the finish.
  • 2007: The start in Altonaer Straße was moved to the rear in order to be able to set up the finish at the Victory Column (on the circuit). The cleared road brought the spectators closer to the action of the competition. The finish line in the roundabout, although it runs at right angles to the racetrack, gives the impression of being closer to the left than to the right and does not meet with approval from every skater.
  • 2010: The start and finish were moved to the northern side of Straße des 17. Juni a few meters east of the roundabout. The start and finish area was on the north side of the roundabout and between the north and south routes.
