List of TV channels

XXP was a private television station from Berlin , which mainly broadcast reports and documentaries.

history

On May 7, 2001, Spiegel TV started the television broadcaster XXP together with the production company dctp - a program with documentaries, reports and magazines, where XX stood for metropolitan size and P for program. The editor-in-chief was Thomas Ammann , who came to Berlin from Hamburg in 2002. Before that, Ammann was at Spiegel TV Magazin.

In January 2006, the US media group Discovery Communications took over 98% of the shares. The remaining two percent remained with the former main shareholders dctp and Spiegel TV. On September 1, 2006, XXP was merged into the new channel DMAX . The following channel wants to address “especially younger, upscale male target groups”. The station describes itself as a “factual entertainment channel for men”. Among other things, the series American Chopper, which was previously broadcast on RTL II and also previously on XXP, is broadcast.

program

The program mainly consisted of reports, documentaries, background programs, magazines, discussions and interviews. In addition, a daily news program was broadcast, and more rarely feature films. The television station advertised with the slogan Adventure Reality .

The programs and films came from Spiegel TV , dctp , BBC , Süddeutsche Zeitung , Neue Zürcher Zeitung , the authors ' film publisher and other program suppliers and, since the takeover by Discovery, also from the Discovery Channel .

Sport also had its program place on XXP: As part of the “XXP Horse Time”, reports about horses as well as recordings of major riding tournaments (for example the FEI World Cup show jumping ) were broadcast on the weekend evenings. The experts here were Achaz von Buchwaldt and Heike Kemmer . The format was continued on Spiegel TV Digital after the end of XXP .

On February 1, 2006, the daily broadcast duration via analog satellite television was increased from four hours to the 24 hours that had been broadcast digitally since the beginning.

Each day had a different focus topic:

  • Monday: present
  • Tuesday: past
  • Wednesday: future
  • Thursday: way of life
  • Friday: continents
  • Saturday: company
  • Sunday: culture

reception

XXP was broadcast via cable and satellite in large parts of Germany. The station could also be received via DVB-T via MonA TV . Thus more than 70 percent of the television households could receive the offer. It was last broadcast all day on ASTRA analogue and digital. Analogue, the program was initially only available from 7:55 p.m. to midnight. XXP was only broadcast digitally via Hotbird when it started broadcasting.
