Yasuhiro Takemoto ( Japanese 武 本 康弘 Takemoto Yasuhiro ; born April 5, 1972 in Hyōgo Prefecture , Japan ; † July 18, 2019 in Kyoto , Japan) was a Japanese animator , screenwriter and film director .

Life

Until 2003, Yasuhiro Takemoto worked for his employer Kyōto Animation as an animator, key- picture artist and screenwriter and director of individual episodes in various productions of other studios, since Kyōto Animation had only worked as a subcontractor until then. As such, Takemoto has worked on individual episodes of Inu Yasha (director, script), Gate Keepers (script), Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu (script, director) and Kiddy Grade (script, director) or as a key artist for Doraemon - and Involved in Crayon Shin chan films. His first directorial work, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu from 2003, was also the first self-produced series by Kyōto Animation, which was followed by others. Fumoffu was the continuation of an already successful series and sat - together with Kyōto Animations further sequels Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid - from its first season due to a significantly higher quality of production, in particular a better integration of classic 2D animation and computer animation, the use of visual effects and naturalistic backgrounds. This should be retained in later productions and become a special feature of the studio.

In 2007, after four episodes, he took over the direction of the anime series Lucky Star , replacing Yutaka Yamamoto, who was withdrawn from the job. Other series in which Takemoto was significantly involved are in particular Hyōka in 2012 , Amagi Brilliant Park in 2014 and Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid in 2017 . In Hyōka , based on mystery novels by Honobu Yonezawa , according to an interview, Takemoto wanted to address painful experiences in youth against the background of mystery stories, which shape a young person and allow them to grow. In all other productions of Kyōto Animation he worked in smaller positions as before in commissioned work for other studios: as a screenwriter or director of individual episodes, as a keyframe artist or animator.

Yasuhiro Takemoto was killed on July 18, 2019 in the arson attack on Kyoto Animation at the age of 47.
