Yelena Eckemoff ( Russian Елена Экемов ; * around 1962 in Moscow ) is an American jazz pianist of Russian origin.

Life

Eckemoff completed classical piano training at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow . After completing a master's degree in piano and music education, she worked as a piano teacher in Moscow music schools, gave solo concerts and played in a jazz-rock band; from the 1990s she recorded under her own name.

In 1991 Eckemoff emigrated to the United States with her family. In 2009 the album Cold Sun was created , recorded in Copenhagen in a trio with Mads Vinding and Peter Erskine , which, like all later works, was self-published. She also worked with Morten Lund , Mats Eilertsen , Marilyn Mazur , Darek Oleszkiewicz and Arild Andersen . In 2014 she released the album A Touch of Radiance with a quintet , with Joe Locke , Billy Hart , Mark Turner and George Mraz . In the field of jazz, she was involved in 13 recording sessions between 2009 and 2018.
