Yucca elata subsp. utahensis (English common name : "Utah Yucca") is a subspecies of the plant species Yucca elata in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).

description

Yucca elata subsp. utahensis grows without a trunk or forms a trunk up to 0.6 m in height. The variable and flexible fibrous leaves are 20 to 90 cm long and yellow-green.

The branched panicle inflorescence reaches a height of 1 to 2 meters. The hermaphrodite, threefold, pendulous, bell-shaped flowers have a length and a diameter of 3.5 to 5.5 centimeters. The six identical bloom bracts are white to cream-colored. The flowering period extends from April to June.

Occurrence

Yucca elata subsp. utahensis is distributed in the US states of Utah and Nevada in the Great Basin Desert in plains and on flat hills in sandy soil at altitudes between 850 and 2000 meters. It often grows in association with Sclerocactus spinosior subsp. blainei , Pediocactus sileri , Mammillaria tetrancistra , Agave utahensis var. eborispina and various species of cacti .

Intermediate forms, the Yucca angustissima subsp. related to kanabensis .

This subtype is down to -20 ° C hardy . However, it is rarely in collections.
